Getting started with Newsroom
This page gives a short overview of how a post at your broadcaster moves from draft to publication, and links through to the detailed pages for each step. Use it as a first orientation, not as a complete manual.
What you see in the menu depends on your role. A new editor will always see “Creating and editing posts”; sections like Review, Planning or Settings only appear with the matching role. See the full list of roles in Managing users.
From draft to publication
Create a new post
Fill in the title, category and the publication window (from/to) — see General information about a post for what each field does. Until you submit it, the post stays a draft you can find under Unfinished posts.
Write the content
Write the text, optionally use the “Read more” point to decide what counts as the summary (see Content and “Read more”), and add media: photo, video or audio.
Submit for review
After submitting, the post enters the queue of colleagues with the review role. See Review workflow for how approving, rewriting and rejecting work.
Publication happens automatically
Once approved, Newsroom publishes the post by itself as soon as the publication window starts, to the website (WordPress or Joomla, always required) and to any social channels you enabled for this post. See Publishing to your channels for what happens per channel and in which order.
Something not working as expected — for example a post that isn’t publishing, or an error message when logging in? See Troubleshooting error messages and issues.
Have a deadline or a standalone task?
Standalone tasks and deadlines that aren’t tied to a post right away belong in the planning module — see Working with planning and deadlines. From the post editor itself you can also set a deadline directly for the post you’re working on.
For administrators: initial setup
Before editors can get started, you usually set up a few things first:
- Categories and regions — see Managing categories and Managing regions.
- Users and roles — see Managing users.
- Connecting your website and channels — WordPress or Joomla is required before anything can be published; social channels are optional. See the overview under Routing.
- General settings — publication deadlines, photo dimensions, approval rules, and so on, see Managing general settings.
