Routing: FTP Audio
Use this guide when audio from Newsroom posts needs to be delivered to an external system via an FTP/SFTP server. FTP Audio is a standalone platform in Settings > Routing — it has nothing to do with Joomla’s FTP image connection (see Routing: Joomla); they only share the same underlying FTP connection technology. See Roles and permissions for who has access.
Roles and permissions
This page — like the rest of Settings > Routing, for all platforms — is only reachable for users with the Settings role (the same role used for most other Settings pages, e.g. AI settings and Plan/usage), not a separate FTP Audio-specific role. Without this role, opening the entire Routing page already shows an error instead of an overview of connected platforms.
What you configure here
When connecting FTP Audio, you fill in:
- Type —
FTP,SFTP(with password), orSFTP via Keyfile(private key + passphrase, no password). The port updates automatically: 21 for FTP, 22 for both SFTP variants. - Host, Username, Password (disabled for the Keyfile variant).
- For FTP: Mode (Active/Passive) and an SSL toggle.
- For SFTP via Keyfile: Private Key and Passphrase.
- Path — the directory on the server where files are placed (default
/). There is no separate filename or path template: the uploaded file simply keeps the audio file’s original filename.
As with Joomla and WordPress, you must click test first — only once that test succeeds (Newsroom then also shows the file listing of the FTP directory) does the save button become available. Once saved, the platform only shows host, username, and path for reference; you can’t edit it, only delete the whole connection and set up a new one.
A broadcaster can have only one active FTP Audio connection at a time. Once a connection exists, the button to create a new one is disabled — you must delete the existing one first.
Which posts qualify
There is no category or post-type restriction: any post that has audio attached via the Media section of the post editor (uploading audio alongside image and video) counts.
If a post has no (manually uploaded) audio, it isn’t sent to this connection.
The JSON sidecar
Alongside the audio file itself, Newsroom places a JSON file with the same
filename (only the extension is .json), containing metadata:
version,asset_type("audio"),filename,mime_typepublication_from/publication_to(the post’s publication window) andtimezonepost_uuidandtitleof the post
Workflow
Open Settings > Routing and choose Audio FTP
Fill in the server details
Choose the type first (FTP, SFTP, or SFTP via Keyfile) — the remaining fields adapt accordingly.
Test the connection
The save button only appears after a successful test. On a successful test, Newsroom also shows the file listing of the specified directory, so you can immediately verify you’re in the right folder.
Save the connection
From now on, every post with audio counts toward this connection.
