Newsroom Connect
Newsroom Connect is an optional feature (enabled separately per broadcaster) that lets broadcasters using Newsroom share posts with each other — for example regional networks that want to pick up each other’s regional news.
Roles and permissions
Connecting/disconnecting broadcasters on this page requires the Settings role — without it, the page shows a “No access” message instead of the broadcaster list. The rest of Newsroom Connect has no dedicated role requirement yet: anyone who can edit posts can use the Newsroom Connect toggle in the post editor and import or reject incoming posts — there’s no separate role (like Review) that gates this specifically.
Sharing a post
The post editor has a separate “Newsroom Connect” toggle. Turn it on, and Newsroom shows a list of broadcasters the post will be shared with.
You can check or uncheck each broadcaster in this list to include or exclude it from sharing (the first time you turn this on, every broadcaster you’re connected with is checked by default) — the list only shows broadcasters you’re actually connected with.
The post only actually becomes visible to other broadcasters once the post itself is published (not immediately when you turn on the toggle).
Incoming posts from other broadcasters
Under Connect you’ll also find an inbox with posts other broadcasters have shared with you. This inbox has its own, more detailed page covering all search/filter options and the difference between rejecting and deleting: see Inbox. In short, for each incoming post you choose:
- Import — first choose a category from your own broadcaster’s list (required, the Import button stays disabled until you pick one — there’s no content match with the sender’s category, so you choose it yourself), then click Import. This creates a full copy of the post in your own broadcaster: title, priority, source credit, publication window, body text, and any photos, videos, audio and keywords come along too.
- Reject — the post disappears from your “new” list but remains findable under archived/handled posts.
Import happens in the background: you get an immediate confirmation (“Post is being imported.”) and return to the list, the post itself shows up shortly after under Unfinished posts. A failed import or rejection (for example due to a temporary network issue) shows a clear error message — simply try again in that case.
An imported post then goes through the normal flow: it’s ready as a draft and still needs to be submitted and reviewed, see Unfinished posts and Review workflow — the latter also explains why imported posts don’t trigger a rejection email to an “author”: one doesn’t exist for this kind of post.
Workflow
Ask the broadcaster owner to enable Newsroom Connect
This is a feature that needs to be enabled for your broadcaster first.
Turn on Newsroom Connect for a specific post
This shares the post, on publication, with the broadcasters you select above (by default: every broadcaster you’re connected with).
Handle incoming posts via the Connect inbox
Choose a category and import, or reject.
