Publishing to your channels
This screen (the Publication tab in the post editor) only controls, per post, which channels participate and with what text — not the connection itself. A channel must first be connected in Settings > Routing before it appears here as a card.
Website (WordPress/Joomla) — always mandatory on
Once WordPress or Joomla is connected, the corresponding toggle is always on and greyed out — you can’t turn off the website publication for a given post. You can, however, set a per-post meta description here (SEO, max. 300 characters), separate from the rest of the article, with an AI-generate button. Changes are saved automatically (debounced half a second after typing) — even if you first delete the description and then type in the exact same text again, that new entry is saved correctly. On both WordPress and Joomla, this description becomes the article’s SEO meta description (the snippet that shows up under the title in, for example, Google search results). If you leave this field empty, Newsroom automatically fills in the first 155 characters of the intro text on publication — so you never have to fill it in yourself to get a working meta description.
After generating with AI, check the character counter: the limit is 300 characters.
Twitter/X, Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn — per-post on/off
For these channels, a toggle switch appears once the channel is connected:
- Turning it on only shows the input fields for that channel (e.g. text
- hashtags for Twitter/Facebook) — nothing is saved yet at that point. Only once you actually enter content does Newsroom save it automatically. If you leave the field empty and navigate away, the toggle will be off again next time.
- Turning it off immediately deletes the saved publication for that channel (an immediate delete call, no separate confirmation step afterwards).
- Twitter and Facebook each have their own text field with hashtags and a “Generate AI” button that automatically suggests a summary of the article. Twitter is limited to 280 characters in the UI (a frontend-only limit, not enforced server-side); Facebook has no character limit.
Facebook and Twitter only publish after a successful website publication — Facebook and Twitter posts are only sent after the post has been successfully placed on the connected WordPress or Joomla website. If no website is connected, or that website publication fails for this specific post, nothing is sent to Facebook or Twitter either — regardless of whether the toggle for this post is on. Instagram, TikTok, and LinkedIn don’t have this dependency (see below).
Instagram, TikTok, and LinkedIn — independent of the website
Instagram, TikTok, and LinkedIn don’t wait for the website publication: as soon as the post is published, content for these channels goes out simultaneously and independently, even if no WordPress/Joomla is connected. Instagram has several content types (grid photo, grid video, reel, album) that you choose per post; TikTok has its own, extensive video configuration (see below); LinkedIn has a simpler form (see below). All three require you to have saved a platform-specific configuration for the post before publication (not just turning on the toggle).
TikTok — video settings
For TikTok, besides the video itself, you fill in a few required settings before you can save:
- Title (required, up to 2200 characters) and an optional Caption with hashtags.
- Privacy: which visibility options are available is fetched live from TikTok by Newsroom (the “creator check”) — this depends on the connected TikTok account and can therefore change outside of Newsroom. Above the form, Newsroom shows which TikTok account (nickname) you’re publishing as, so you can check it’s the right connection.
- Commercial content: none, Your Brand, Branded Content, or both — choose this if the post contains promotional material.
- Interactions: you can turn Comments, Duet, and Stitch on or off per post, unless TikTok has already disabled these for the account (in which case the setting is greyed out).
- Two required declarations at the bottom of the form: a confirmation of TikTok’s Music Usage Confirmation (always required) and, only for commercial content, a confirmation of TikTok’s Branded Content Policy.
After publishing, it may take TikTok a few minutes to process the video before it appears on the profile — Newsroom mentions this in the form too.
LinkedIn — post settings
The LinkedIn form is simpler than TikTok’s: no separate interaction settings, no declarations to check.
- LinkedIn message: an optional text field. Newsroom doesn’t enforce or show a character limit here.
- Media type: None, Image, or Video — determines which of the two fields below appears.
- Linked image (only for media type Image) or Linked video (only for media type Video): a choice from the images/videos already attached to the post. Required once you pick that media type; if the post doesn’t have an image/video yet, Newsroom asks you to add one to the post first.
- Hashtags: optional, with the same suggestion feature as other channels.
Unlike Facebook, Instagram, Twitter/X, and YouTube, the LinkedIn form has no “Generate AI” button — you always write the text yourself here.
YouTube
YouTube also publishes independently of the website publication, directly based on the video you upload with the post.
Workflow
Connect the channel in Settings > Routing first
Without a connection, no card appears for that channel on this screen.
Turn the channel on for this specific post
Not needed for WordPress/Joomla — those are already on by default.
Fill in the content for that channel
Text and hashtags for Twitter/Facebook, or use the AI-generate button. Newsroom saves this automatically as you type.
Turn a channel off again to remove the publication for this post
This happens immediately, without a separate confirmation.
