Routing: Facebook
Linking Facebook in Settings > Routing lets you automatically push posts to a Facebook page as soon as they’re published on your website. See Roles and permissions for who has access.
Linking Facebook uses the same Meta login as Instagram — the requested
permissions (instagram_basic, instagram_content_publish) immediately
give Newsroom access to a linked Instagram Business account too. You don’t
need to log in twice if you want to use both.
Roles and permissions
This page — like the rest of Settings > Routing, for all platforms — is only reachable for users with the Settings role (the same role used for most other Settings pages, e.g. AI settings and Plan/usage), not a separate Facebook-specific role. Without this role, opening the entire Routing page already shows an error instead of an overview of connected platforms.
Linking
- Click Facebook in Settings > Routing and log in via Meta.
- Newsroom fetches the Facebook pages your account administers. Pages already in use by another link show up in the list marked “(Already linked)” and can’t be selected.
- Pick the desired page and click Link Page.
If the login succeeded but Newsroom shows no pages to pick from, the Facebook login itself worked, but you didn’t grant the app access to your pages during login. Use Opnieuw koppelen met Facebook (Reconnect with Facebook) to request the permissions again.
Display: Link, Photo or Media
After linking, use Facebook settings to choose how a post appears on the page:
- Link (default) — a plain link preview to the article.
- Photo — the main image as a photo post, with the text and link in the caption. Newsroom always uses the FIRST image attached to the post, never a gallery of multiple photos.
- Media — the post’s video as a video post. If the post has no video, Newsroom automatically falls back to the same photo post described under “Photo” above. Facebook processes a video in the background, so it can take a little while to appear on the page — that’s expected, not a fault. If Facebook rejects the video itself outright (for example an unsupported file format or size), Newsroom automatically posts that same photo fallback instead of skipping the video post entirely.
The Photo and Media displays need an image (for Media, a video also works) on the post. If the post has none, choose Link or add media first.
When it publishes
Facebook posts are only sent after the post has successfully published on your website (see also Publishing to your channels). Without a successful website publication for that specific post, nothing goes to Facebook either. The post lands on the linked page’s timeline, with the article URL as the link and your entered text/hashtags as the caption (for “Link” display) or photo caption (for “Photo” display). Hashtags always end up at the end of that text, after the automatically added link to the article.
Expired connection
If the Facebook connection expires, check its status in Settings > Routing and, if needed, click Reconnect with Facebook.
Removing the connection
Delete Platform removes the connection entirely; you’ll need to log in and pick a page again to use Facebook once more.
