Managing categories
Categories aren’t just a way to organize posts — for each category you also set how much content is needed per weekday for TV page delivery, and which background image is used for it.
Roles and permissions
Uploading, cropping, or deleting a background image requires the Settings role. The other category management tasks on this page — creating, renaming, deactivating/restoring, and setting the required posts per TV day — are available to anyone with access to Settings, with no separate role requirement.
Overview, creating, and deleting
The list shows all categories, paginated. New categories are added with just a name. Deleting is really deactivating (a soft delete): a deactivated category disappears from the list of usable categories, but remains visible with a restore button to make it active again.
Category names must be unique. If you try to create one that already exists, you’ll see a clear “This category already exists” message.
Settings per category
Open a category to manage three things:
Rename
A simple rename, saved immediately.
Required posts per TV day. You set, per weekday (Monday through Sunday), how many posts in this category are needed. For example: if Monday is set to 5, and only 3 posts in this category have been published by 6 PM that day, the dashboard widget below shows 3/5 (60%).
The same setting can also be opened directly from the category list via a separate window, without needing to go to the full category page.
Uploading a background
The background image used when automatically generating TV pages for this category (see Managing general settings for the text styling that’s placed over it).
Required format: exactly 1920×1080 pixels, JPG or PNG. Newsroom checks this before uploading and immediately rejects images with a different resolution.
After uploading, a crop frame appears over the image with a fixed aspect ratio (minimum 720×500 pixels). Drag and resize the frame as needed; every adjustment is saved automatically and immediately, with no separate save button, as long as you do this right after uploading, in the same session. Deleting is done with the button below the image.
If you reopen an existing background, the crop frame immediately appears at your previously chosen position — you don’t need to drag it again to see exactly what’s currently in use.
See Roles and permissions above for who can change these background settings.
Tracking progress on the dashboard
The main dashboard has a “Category / TV page” widget that shows, for each category with a configured daily requirement: the number required, the number present, and the percentage of that. This figure is about tomorrow (the next weekday), in line with the text above the table (“Required for tomorrow”) — so you can already see before the end of the day whether there’s enough content ready for the next TV day.
Workflow
Create or open a category
Set the required posts per weekday
Leave a day at 0 if nothing needs to be scheduled for that category on that day.
Upload a background of exactly 1920×1080 pixels
Adjust the crop frame if needed
Check progress on the dashboard
The “Category / TV page” widget shows how you’re doing for tomorrow against the configured requirement.
