AI settings
This page consists of two tabs: Prompts (the active AI provider and the prompts behind every standalone AI feature) and Agents (managing the local-signals agent, see below).
Roles and permissions
This page is only visible to users with the Settings role (see Managing users) — without that role Newsroom shows an error message instead of the AI settings.
AI configuration
You choose a provider (OpenAI, Gemini, or Ollama) and a model per provider; for Ollama you can also set a custom base URL for an external Ollama server.
Prompts per AI feature
Newsroom uses its own, separately adjustable prompt in ten places. For
each prompt you set the “AI role” (system prompt) and the “AI prompt” (the
template with placeholders like {{text}}), and see which placeholders
are required and which are optional.
| Feature | Where you encounter it |
|---|---|
| Rewriting post body | Rewriting with AI in the content editor |
| Generating a post from a source | Read URL and Press release processing |
| Generating TV pages | Splits a post into up to 4 cable-teletext pages, driven by the text box dimensions from Managing general settings |
| Generating a radio bulletin | Radio Bulletin in the post editor — rewrites a post into a short, readable item (guideline: max. 30 seconds) |
| Website metadescription | The meta description under Publishing to your channels |
| Facebook / Twitter / Instagram post | The “Generate AI” buttons when sharing a post per-channel |
| Suggesting keywords | AI suggestions at Keywords |
| YouTube metadata | Title, description, and tags for a YouTube publication |
Each prompt shows a status: Default (never adjusted for this broadcaster) or Custom. You can only reset custom prompts.
Saving is rejected for an invalid prompt. If you forget to include
a required placeholder (e.g. {{text}}) in the “AI prompt”, Newsroom
immediately shows an error when you try to save and nothing is stored —
so you can’t accidentally activate a broken prompt. Some features also
have a fixed list of allowed placeholders: use one that isn’t on that
list and saving is likewise rejected, with the name of the unknown
placeholder(s) in the error message.
Resetting shows a true preview of the default prompt. The confirmation dialog shows “Current” (the customized prompt you’re about to remove) next to “Will become” (the actual central default prompt, system prompt and template), so you can see exactly what’s about to change before confirming.
Skipping AI for inbound e-mail isn’t set on this page — it lives on Settings > E-mail instead, the only place where you can turn off AI processing for e-mails coming into the Inbox, separate from the provider choice and prompts above.
Agents
The Agents tab manages the local-signals agent: an AI agent that searches for local news and agenda sources per municipality on its own, and offers the signals it finds for review in Inbox > Agents.
Which municipalities your broadcaster covers is set by DotInk based on your subscription — this isn’t something you manage yourself anywhere in Settings. Once a municipality is covered for your broadcaster, you can attach your own sources to it as described below.
Sources
A source is a website the agent periodically searches for news and/or agenda items (for example a municipality’s, association’s, or community center’s website). Use “Add source” to add one yourself:
- Municipality — chosen from the municipalities covered for your broadcaster (required).
- Name and URL of the source (both required).
- Type — free text (e.g. “website”, “rss”, “municipality_website”).
- Agent kinds — toggle independently: Agenda (events/activities) and/or News, determining what the agent uses this source for.
Each source in the list shows its status (Proposed, Active, Inactive, or Rejected), a confidence percentage, and the active agent kinds. Use “Edit” to adjust the status, confidence percentage, and the Agenda/News toggles; filter the list by status above it.
“Refresh now” re-fetches a source immediately, without waiting for the next automatic round. Only available for a source with status Active or Proposed — for Inactive or Rejected the agent doesn’t use it anyway.
Discovery schedule
Besides the sources you add yourself, the agent also searches for new sources on its own. The discovery schedule shows, per municipality and category, when that last happened, with a status (Scheduled, Due, or Searching) and a “Search now” button to start a round immediately — unavailable while a round is already in progress.
