Managing general settings
This is Settings > General — the settings that determine Newsroom’s behavior broadcaster-wide, separate from external platform connections (those live in Routing). The page consists of five blocks; each setting is saved automatically once you leave the field.
Categories, regions, users, import, and reporting are their own separate areas within Settings, each with their own settings — this page only covers the General block.
Roles and permissions
This page is visible to anyone with access to Settings, but saving changes requires the Settings role (under Admin, see Managing users). Without this role you can still see the current values, but attempting to save gives an error.
Post writing
- Publication offset (days) — default 4. This is exactly the value
Newsroom uses to automatically fill in
publication toif you leave it empty when creating a post (see General information for a post). The field only accepts a whole number between 1 and 90 days — enter anything else and Newsroom shows an error and doesn’t save the value.
Review
- Ask for confirmation on self-review (on/off) and timeout in minutes (default 5) — together these determine whether, and how long, you have to wait before you can approve a post you submitted yourself. See Review workflow for the full behavior, including the exception for Breaking news.
Photo
-
Photo format: which photos can be uploaded to a post:
- Landscape only (default): portrait photos are rejected and every photo is cropped to a fixed ratio. Choose this if you show photos full screen on TV.
- Landscape and portrait: portrait photos are allowed too; cropping can use any ratio.
- Free (any format): no restriction on the ratio.
-
Enforce minimum size (on/off) with Minimum width and Minimum height in pixels. With “Landscape and portrait” and “Free”, the minimum applies to the long and the short side, so a portrait photo has to meet the same minimum as a landscape one. When it’s off, Newsroom also accepts smaller photos.
-
Photo export size (width × height): the size Newsroom renders the photo at for publishing. With “Landscape only” this is also the fixed crop ratio. With the other two options the field is called Maximum photo export size (longest side): the longest side is limited instead, so a portrait photo isn’t shrunk to a narrow strip. See Media: photo.
-
Source credit and “Photo by” — separate from the crop ratio, you also set the styling of two text lines Newsroom overlays on certain photo exports here: text, color, font, font size, and position (in pixels from left/top), separately for the source credit and the photographer credit. The source credit text itself is set broadcaster-wide here; the photographer text itself comes per photo from the photographer field in Media: photo — here you only set that second line’s styling, not its content.
TV page
TV pages are a core part of Newsroom, not a side feature: every post can be split via AI into one or more TV pages (see Creating TV pages for that step in the post editor), which Newsroom then automatically turns into an image — a category-specific background with title, body text, and source credit overlaid as text. That image is exactly what can later be shown on screen as “beeldkrant”, via the RSS feed or the custom Playout system — see the explanation in General information for a post for how those two display channels work.
Here on this settings page you only set the styling of that automatically generated image, not its content:
- Window width (default 1200 pixels) — together with font and font size, this also determines how much text the AI fits per page when splitting (see Creating TV pages).
- For title, body text, and source credit each separately: color, font (choose from the fonts available on the server), font size, and position in pixels from left/top.
The source credit here is the source credit of the post itself (e.g. a press agency) — a different text line from the photographer credit under Photo above, which is about a specific uploaded photo, not the post as a whole.
Security
- Require two-factor authentication for everyone (on/off, off by default) — turning this on requires every user of the broadcaster to have 2FA set up (see My account) to still access the broadcaster. This applies to everyone; you can’t exempt it per role.
A user without 2FA gets an automatic notice and is redirected when this setting is turned on. As soon as they try any action (posts, contacts, productions, categories, settings, the dashboard, …), Newsroom shows a message that two-factor authentication is required and, after one and a half seconds, automatically redirects to My account so they can set it up right away.
