Routing: TikTok
Roles and permissions
Settings > Routing — including the TikTok card on it — is only accessible to users with the Settings role (the same role required for most other Settings pages, e.g. AI settings and Subscription), not a separate TikTok-specific role. Without this role, opening the whole Routing page already fails with an error instead of showing the overview of linked platforms.
Linking
Click TikTok in Settings > Routing and log in via TikTok (permissions for uploading/publishing video and your basic profile are requested). Once linked, Settings > Routing shows the TikTok profile: avatar, full name, account ID, username, and whether video upload permissions were granted. There’s a button to remove the connection; there are no further settings at this connection level.
Publishing to TikTok
Like Instagram, TikTok publishes independently of website publication (see Publishing to your channels) — as soon as the post is published, the video goes to TikTok at the same time, even without a linked WordPress/Joomla site. The post must contain a video for this to happen: without one, nothing is sent to TikTok. Newsroom sends along the title/caption plus the privacy and interaction settings (duet, stitch, comments) you configure per post.
You choose the visibility of the video per post in the TikTok form of the publication step.
Token expiry: automatic refresh
TikTok access normally expires after about 24 hours. Newsroom automatically refreshes it in the background using the refresh token stored when you linked the account — both proactively (shortly before access would expire) and reactively (if TikTok still rejects an expired token) — you won’t notice this in the normal case.
If the TikTok connection is no longer valid, the publication result asks you to reconnect TikTok. Remove the connection under Settings > Routing and connect again.
