Routing: Twitter/X
With Twitter/X linked in Settings > Routing, Newsroom automatically posts a tweet with text, hashtags, and (optionally) an image as soon as a post is published on your website. See Roles and permissions for who has access.
Roles and permissions
This page — like the rest of Settings > Routing, for all platforms — is only reachable for users with the Settings role (the same role used for most other Settings pages, e.g. AI settings and Plan/usage), not a separate Twitter/X-specific role. Without this role, opening the entire Routing page already shows an error instead of an overview of connected platforms.
Linking
Click Twitter in Settings > Routing and log in via Twitter. The connection uses the classic OAuth 1.0a login flow (not the newer OAuth 2.0 variant) — the exact permissions requested are set in the Twitter Developer app configuration itself, not configurable from Newsroom. After linking, the overview shows the linked username and full name.
When it publishes
Like Facebook, Twitter/X only publishes after the post has successfully published on your website (see also Publishing to your channels). Without a website publication for that specific post, nothing goes to Twitter/X either. The tweet itself contains the text and hashtags you entered in the publish screen, plus a link to the article; if the post has an image, the first image is attached as media — provided it’s available as a JPG. If the image only exists in another file format, the tweet is sent without an image, with no warning shown.
Rate limit: maximum 1 tweet per 10 minutes
Per broadcaster, Newsroom sends at most 1 tweet every 10 minutes. If you publish multiple posts with Twitter/X enabled within that window, later tweets aren’t lost — they’re automatically delayed until the limit has room again. A post with priority “Breaking news” (3 stars) always bypasses this limit and is sent immediately.
Text length and duplicate tweets
Twitter/X accepts tweets up to 280 characters (including hashtags and link) and rejects a tweet with exactly the same text as an earlier one. Keep this in mind when writing.
Expired connection
If the Twitter/X connection expires, check its status in Settings > Routing and reconnect if needed.
Removing the connection
Delete Platform removes the connection entirely; you’ll need to log in again to use Twitter/X once more.
