Press release processing

With Press release processing, Newsroom automatically generates a draft post based on an uploaded document. Drag a file into the upload zone or click to select one.

Supported formats: PDF, DOC, and DOCX.
PDF text is extracted directly from the document; for Word documents, the text is pulled from all sections of the document.
The extracted text goes to the AI, which returns a title, body text, and source attribution — just like with Read URL.

For a PDF, no image is ever carried over automatically — always upload an image yourself via the Media section of the post. For a Word document (DOC/DOCX), Newsroom does automatically pick the largest image in the document, but only if it’s at least 720×500 pixels; if no image meets that size, the post ends up without an image just like with PDF, and you’ll need to add one yourself.

If Newsroom does automatically pick an image from a Word document, that image’s photographer field is automatically filled with the same source name shown as “Source:” in the review queue — if the broadcaster has a copyright watermark configured under Settings > General, that source name appears visibly on the photo itself (see Media: photo).
If the broadcaster has exactly one region configured, it’s automatically attached to the post. With multiple regions, you’ll need to set this yourself.

Check the assigned category. Newsroom also automatically assigns a category to the new draft, without you choosing it or seeing which one was picked. This isn’t necessarily the right category for the topic — check and correct it under General information for a post before submitting the post.

On success, Newsroom automatically opens the new draft post in the post editor. From here you go through the normal flow: filling in the rest (see General information for a post), then submitting and review like any other post.

If processing fails

The document can’t be read (for example a corrupted file, a password-protected PDF, or a scanned PDF that’s just an image with no actual text): you get an error message and no draft is created.
The AI processing itself fails (for example due to a temporary outage): you also get an error message and no draft is created.

Add an image yourself via the Media section, check the title, text, and region before submitting the post for review.
