Content and the “Read more” split
The Content tab is the main text editor for the post. Every change is saved automatically; there’s no separate save button needed.
Formatting the text
The formatting bar above the text offers:
- Text type: Paragraph, heading 1/2/3, Quote, bullet list or numbered list
- Text style: bold, italic, underline, strikethrough
- Insert link: wraps the selected text in a web address
- Alignment: left, centered, right or justified
- Undo / redo, separate from the automatic saving
A heading 1 placed inside the text itself ends up next to the post’s own title on your website — it doesn’t replace that title. Newsroom sends the text exactly as formatted straight through to Joomla/ WordPress, without automatically downgrading a heading. Within the text, use heading 2 or 3 as a subheading instead, and reserve heading 1 for the post title itself — otherwise the page ends up with two competing main headings.
The “Read more” marker
From the text editor, you can insert a “Read more” point anywhere in
the text (a horizontal line, shown as [Read More] in the editor). It
can’t be placed in the middle of a list.
This point determines how your article is split in two on the website. When publishing to Joomla or WordPress, Newsroom splits the text at this point into an intro text (everything before the marker) and a full text (everything after it):
- Joomla: the intro text and full text are sent separately to Joomla’s own introtext/fulltext fields — exactly the same mechanism as Joomla’s built-in “Read more” split.
- WordPress: Newsroom converts the marker into WordPress’s own
<!--more-->tag, and uses only the intro text as the source for the excerpt field.
If there is no “Read more” point in the text, Joomla puts everything in a single field and the WordPress content stays unsplit.
This “Read more” point is also the reference point for the YouTube embed position on Joomla (“directly after the read-more point”, see Routing: Joomla) — the same marker drives both the text split and where a linked video ends up.
Rewriting with AI
Below the text is the “Rewrite with AI” button (labeled AI). This rewrites the entire body text in one go and replaces the existing text immediately — there’s no preview or confirmation step: as soon as the AI is done, the new text is right there in the editor and already saved.
What the AI actually does (defined in the “Rewriting post body” prompt — see AI settings for how to adjust this prompt yourself per broadcaster): rewrite for a local news website, target audience 40 and older, B2 language level. The prompt explicitly forces at least 25-50% of the text to change, even if the original text is already good — different word choice, different sentence structure, different paragraph layout — to avoid literal repetition. No new information may be added; the AI isn’t allowed to invent anything itself.
If the Content tab is still completely empty, the button does nothing — you’ll see an error message instead. There needs to be some text to rewrite first, so save at least a starting version of the article yourself before using “Rewrite with AI”.
Every AI rewrite always counts as a new version in Version history, no matter how small the change is. The normal “smart” versioning rule (only a new version if the text differs by more than ~20%, or if the last version is already an hour old) only applies to the regular typing autosave. The AI rewrite button creates the new text directly as its own, separate version, without that comparison — so even an AI rewrite that barely changes anything always produces its own, retrievable version.
Workflow
Write your article in the Content tab
Changes are saved automatically.
Use the formatting bar for headings, lists, links or alignment if needed
Reserve heading 1 for the post title itself; use heading 2/3 as a subheading.
Place a “Read more” point where you want it
This determines the cutoff between intro text and full text on Joomla/ WordPress.
On Joomla, also check the YouTube embed position
If you choose “directly after the read-more point”, this same marker determines that too.
Optionally use “Rewrite with AI” to have the body text rewritten in one go
This replaces the text immediately, without a preview, and always produces a new version in Version history.
